I'm a newcomer to Ubuntu (and linux in general) and since I have a machine spare, I have Ubuntu Server (terminal only) installed on one of my machines. I've recently started playing around with .bashrc files, and changed the .bashrc file in my home directory to the following:
I did this to have more control over some customization and things (setting system variables, etc). The .bashrc file that's in my dotfiles directory then points to a ".env" file at ~/bin/dotfiles/.env which contains the following ():
export EDITOR="nano" export PATH=$PATH:~/bin export home="/home/joe/" export dotfiles="/home/joe/bin/dotfiles"
The above are really just environment/system variables for my own personal use. My problem is that now I've changed everything the tilde (~) no longer brings me to my home directory - how can I get it to do this again?
