I have a new Windows 8 Sony Vaio SVF14A15CXB laptop that has UEFI and I have been struggling through an Ubuntu installation. I have a bootable Ubuntu DVD+R and I have managed to mess with my BIOS/UEFI so that it boots. I have used Windows 8 to create a desired hard disk partition and installed Ubuntu there, and have burned a boot-repair

and rEFInd

disk and neither will boot. I know I should continue googling and struggling, but I am getting frustrated. Thanks to anyone who gives me the time of day.

What's the problem? Will Ubuntu not boot? Do you receive any error message? –  Richard Oct 21 '13 at 22:10
My Ubuntu that is allegedly on the hard drive does not boot. I remove all CDs I get Windows 8. I put in the Ubuntu 13.04 CD I get Ubuntu 13.04. I put in the boot-repair or rEFInd CDs I get Windows 8 –  Kayven Riese Oct 21 '13 at 22:43
The 13.04 CD is clearly running from CD/DVD media, not hard drive. –  Kayven Riese Oct 21 '13 at 22:45
I followed this guy's detailed instructions using Windoze: –  Kayven Riese Oct 22 '13 at 0:12
