My dell mini 10v 1011 having Broadcom wifi shows the msg as device not ready (firmware missing). So whats the next step as I have used thr foll previously but it causes probs when I update my system l8r

sudo aptitude install bcmwl-kernel-source

And with this direct method my main prob is system fails to update, I get a frequent msg that some files could not be fetched or repository's do not exist.

So what can be done about it?

P.S am running 11.04. But had this prob since 10.04, 9.10 detected wifi just fine

Just to check, does your Dell 10v have a separate ethernet port? If so, connect this to your router first before you start the "Hardware drivers" window. There was a bug in natty that has only recently been fixed to get broadcom drivers working. My advice would be to run update-manager to update to the latest software first, before trying to activate the broadcom driver in the hardware drivers window – fossfreedom Apr 17 '11 at 17:41
Just wanted to clarify fossfreedoms comment: you need a working internet connection to start the "Hardware drivers" application (command is jockey-gtk). On my HP mini (Broadcom BMC43224) I had to plugin the cable to install the wireless drivers (they were very buggy btw, I think it's fixed now as the connection has been stable for some time now) – sBlatt Apr 17 '11 at 20:26
