Ask Ubuntu is a question and answer site for Ubuntu users and developers. It's 100% free, no registration required.

Im just a beginner, since I had some troubles with windows and I was studying some things about computers by my own(internet in freetime). Im 14 years old guy and I installed lot of systems in my laptop-toshiba just to try and learn about others because my laptop system was windows vista home basics...which was great xD.

Only problem I have: I use Ubuntu 13.04 actually, and my problem is that fan doesn't work.. I thought it happens due to drivers but I have no idea what to do[My laptop is Toshiba Satellite L300-21G].

This is probably an ACPI compatibility issue. You can try the following:

  1. gksudo gedit /etc/default/grub

  2. replace the line GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX=""

    with GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX="acpi.power_nocheck=1"

  3. save

  4. exit

  5. launch sudo update-grub

switch OFF THEN switch ON the laptop. These instructions are is from this thread: http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1473317 HTH
