So, I ran sudo apt-get update and then sudo apt-get upgrade and it ran fine. Beautiful! Like summer in the Artic!

Then I rebooted and suddenly I got:

The system is running in low-graphics mode

Your Screen, graphics card, and input device settings could not be detected correctly. You will need to configure these yourself.

We hit OK.

We get 4 options:

Run in low-graphics mode for just one session
Reconfigure graphics
Troubleshoot the error
Exit to console login

If I go into Run in low-graphics mode for just one session or Exit to console login I get to a screen that seems to be a notepad in the sense that all I can do is type stuff. If I press alt –F1 to get to the command line when I choose Exit to console login I could arrive at the command line. If I use Run in low-graphics mode for just one session and press alt-F1 it will remain in the notepad state and I am forced to do REISUB.

Upon clicking on Reconfigure graphics anything I click on simply refreshes and does nothing. If we click on Troubleshoot the error it gets me nowhere.

Below is the Xorg.0.log:

Booting into an older kernel might be a workaround. (Press <shift> upon boot to see the grub menu, go to Advanced Options For Ubuntu, and go to the next line that doesn't say Recovery Mode). –  Richard Oct 3 '13 at 20:31

I believe I tried with 32 and 40 and it did not work. Let me try all of them. I think I have over 6 of them. Is it bad to have a bunch herein? Does it use memory? –  Ricardo Manning Oct 3 '13 at 22:55

I actually was pressing enter on the previous kernels without the shift key held down. I did it the correct way (thanks searchfgold6789 to the 10th power) and it worked. Tomorrow I will post which ones are causing difficulty. –  Ricardo Manning Oct 4 '13 at 0:33

Wouldn't know how to diagnose this, other than pointing out that Xorg is loading vesa and intel. Perhaps you could upload the xorg log from a working kernel? To answer your question, having a bunch of kernel is somewhat useless (except in your case) and takes up some hard disk space, around 100 MB per kernel. It adds entries to the Grub menu and makes it take a little longer to update it, which happens every time a kernel is upgraded. Whether or not it's "bad" is somewhat subjective. –  Richard Oct 4 '13 at 0:56

wow. ok. Now it seems to be working. I do not know what happended! No more errors. Yet somehow I was working on GUI and then I did ctrl shift alt [fn] del + REISUB, and I ended back on the graphical error. I REISUB and went into Kernel 40 and no error. –  Ricardo Manning Oct 4 '13 at 20:05
