Ask Ubuntu is a question and answer site for Ubuntu users and developers. It's 100% free, no registration required.

I have a pc running Ubuntu 12.04 LTS with two PCI WinTV Nova T 500 tuner cards.

Every so often they will fail and require a reboot.

When they fail, you get tons of this in syslog:

mt2060 I2C write failed (len=2)

The problem is also described here:

http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1535821

Although that was nearly 4 years ago!

I haven't tried any of those workarounds yet, although I will shortly.

Does anybody know a prober fix?

v4l upgrade? Kernel? New firmware perhaps?

Give up and buy new cards?
