Ask Ubuntu is a question and answer site for Ubuntu users and developers. It's 100% free.

I installed Ubuntu 12.04 on my Windows 7 laptop (installed in D: drive) using Wubi installer (I used the ISO file, 64-bit). Now when I restart my laptop I have two options to boot with: Windows 7 and Ubuntu. When I click on Ubuntu, the following error message appears:

Windows failed to start. A recent hardware or software change might be the cause. To fix the problem:

 1. Insert your Windows installation disc and restart your computer.
 2. Choose your language settings, and then click "Next."
 3. Click "repair your computer."

If you don't have this disc, contact your system administrator or computer manufacturer for assistance.

 File: \Ubuntu\winboot\wubildr.mbr
 Status: 0xc0000098
Info: The selected entry could not be loaded because the application is missing or corrupt,

When I checked, the file \ubuntu\winboot\wubildr.ubr was there in the installed directory. I don't know why this error is appearing.

Is this a UEFI system? If so, Wubi can't work (and this is the typical error you would see if it were UEFI although it can also appear for other reasons) –  bcbc Sep 21 '13 at 18:58
yeah later I found out about this UEFI thing in latest windows operating systems. Finally I decided to remove Windows and installed Ubuntu. Now that I have stopped gaming, I don't need Windows anyways, Ubuntu is so much cooler xD. Thanks Alaa –  Alok Sep 24 '13 at 5:49
