Ask Ubuntu is a question and answer site for Ubuntu users and developers. It's 100% free, no registration required.

My office has an Epson Workforce Pro 4530. I run Ubuntu 13.04. CUPS automatically detected the Epson Workforce Pro, but my prints look crappy even on "high quality". If I print off my Mac, they're gorgeous, almost laser-quality text.

I think that the resolution is the problem. The Printer configuration tool from Settings automatically detects my printer, and I have the Epson driver installed. However, in Printer Properties > Job Options, I can't adjust the resolution to anything other than 300 dpi x 300 dpi.

I'd really like to move the whole office over to Ubuntu, but 1) it's a law office and print quality matters a lot and 2) I mostly do indigent defence work because that's what I love but it also means I'm broke and would rather not buy a different printer.

Thanks for any help!
