Ask Ubuntu is a question and answer site for Ubuntu users and developers. It's 100% free, no registration required.

I'm coming from Xubuntu (12.10) on an HP Envy to Dell Sputnik upgraded to 13.04. Using the same Samsung monitor. Ubuntu does detect the monitor.

With Xubunutu I was able to set the refresh rate on my external monitor in the display settings. Which seems like a natural place for it. Ubuntu 13.04 doesn't seem to have that option. This link even shows the setting in an older version of Ubuntu - so they must have removed it. How can I get both of my monitors working with Ubuntu?

Do I really need to edit some config file? If so, can anybody point me to what needs to be done?
