Ask Ubuntu is a question and answer site for Ubuntu users and developers. It's 100% free, no registration required.

When I run top command on my Ubuntu machine, I get one of the lines as this:

/usr/bin/X :0 -auth /var/run/lightdm/root/:0 -nolisten tcp vt7 -novtswitch

in the 'COMMAND' column.

Can anyone explain what kind of a process this is and why is it running on my system?
