Ask Ubuntu is a question and answer site for Ubuntu users and developers. It's 100% free, no registration required.

My computer is dual booted with Windows and Ubuntu, Windows works just fine, but when I installed Ubuntu grey lines occupied a lot of the screen and spazing out making Ubuntu barely noticeable, it says that my graphics are unknown but if I hop in Windows I can see its a Intel HD Graphics Family version I can't use Ubuntu and I really want to, any help?

The output of lspci -nnk | grep VGA -A2 is:

VGA compatible controller [0300]:Intel Corporation 2nd Generation Core Processor Family Integrated Graphics Controller [8086:0102] (rev 09)
      Subsystem: Hewlett-Packard Company device [103:2ac5]
      Kernel driver in use:i915
