Ask Ubuntu is a question and answer site for Ubuntu users and developers. It's 100% free, no registration required.

First of all, I apologize if this question is already solved in the past. I tried to look for answer for my problem however fail to find one.

I own a laptop with dual graphic radeon (7640G + 7470M), I want to set-up multiple screen with my TV. It was working fine with Ubuntu 12.10 -before some update-

I'm not sure which file was updated during the update, however now I've upgraded to 13.04 this problem persists. The failure is that one of the screen only shows a blank screen (on my PC) or no signal for my TV. However, I can see that there are two desktops on my screen.

I thought this might be the issue with the driver, the system also shows my graphic as Gallium 0.4 on AMD ARUBA so I tried to install the driver via the catalyst. But when I reboot and login, the PC failed to boot and I can only work from the low-graphics.

Hence, I do the apt-get purge nvidia* and dpkg-reconfigure ubuntu-desktop to reset the graphic.

So, in the end I always failed to install the drivers and also unable to set up the dual monitor.

Hope you guys can share your experience on working with one similar like my case.

Thank you and please let me know if you need more information

Michael

Installing AMD Graphics Drivers can fix your problem. Download it from here: support.amd.com/us/gpudownload/linux/Pages/radeon_linux.aspx The instructions would be given on the package it self. Give it a try.. –  Saurav Kumar Sep 5 '13 at 15:41
