Ask Ubuntu is a question and answer site for Ubuntu users and developers. It's 100% free, no registration required.

So i finally got around and installed Ubuntu on my Sony Vaio SVE1712C5E. I had to disable secure boot and fix the boot with boot-repair after installation. I could boot both into Windows 8 and Ubuntu.

At school, i had to use Windows, so i rebooted into that. When i wanted to boot into Ubuntu it kept hanging at the purple screen. In "advanced options for ubuntu" i chose for "ubuntu, with linux 3.8.0-19-generic" and there it keeps hanging at "loading initial ramdisk".

Ctrl+alt+del will still reboot.

The recovery mode gives some errors.

Welcome to Ask Ubuntu! Please edit your question and add these errors exactly as they appear. This will help us to diagnose the problem. –  Danatela Sep 5 '13 at 9:36
It may be your graphics problem. If you are able to open your system then run this command : lspci | grep VGA and paste the result here or by editing your question. If possible can you provide some screen shots where actually it hangs.. –  Saurav Kumar Sep 5 '13 at 10:10
@Danatela I can't add the pictures. (not enough reputation?) so I added links to them on my website. –  berendbotje Sep 6 '13 at 20:08
