Ask Ubuntu is a question and answer site for Ubuntu users and developers. It's 100% free, no registration required.

I installed Ubuntu in place of the xp OS on my old desktop, and everything went fine until my password wouldn't work at login. I looked up the ask ubuntu help for this problem:

How do I reset a lost administrative password?

and followed all of the steps. However, after selecting "resume normal boot", the computer displayed several messages across the screen and then went black. It would not take me back to the login portal. Any suggestions?

What were those "several messages"? Also, so what happens now when you turn on the desktop? –  Alaa Ali Sep 2 '13 at 15:01

Thank you for helping. The message only shows up momentarily and it takes up the entire screen. –  Phillip Daniel Scroggin Sep 2 '13 at 17:13
