Ask Ubuntu is a question and answer site for Ubuntu users and developers. It's 100% free, no registration required.

At the moment whenever I start netbeans it runs for a few minutes and then becomes unresponsive. Eventually I have found the only thing I can do is open the System Monitor find Java and kill it. Obviously this is not optimal for working as all work is lost each time this is done. Googling the issue suggests that install Sun Java 6 is the answer but this came to the end of it's life cycle and has known security flaws so I would rather not take the risk just to get a single program running.

I am running Ubuntu on a 64bit AMD processor.

Other details:

Netbeans 7.1.2 Java 1.6.0_27; OpenJDK 64-bit server VM 20.0-b12
