Ask Ubuntu is a question and answer site for Ubuntu users and developers. It's 100% free, no registration required.

My friend is running Ubuntu 12.04 on a Toshiba Satellite C850-1GL laptop. Yesterday -- the 29th of August -- she was prompted to update so clicked "Yes" and now some of the keys on her keyboard do not work. z and / seem to be dead as a result of the update but they do work when she plugs in a usb keyboard.

I can't be more specific as my friend and her computer are both in another country, but it does seem as if the update -- whatever it was -- has done something.

She has switched her keyboard layout from English to Polish and back again to no avail and she has also tried resetting the default keyboard settings.

Can anyone help?
