I run a 64 bit Windows 8 machine and I want to dual boot Ubuntu. I've burned the dvd, get the boot screen and I can "try Ubuntu" but once I try and install I click alongside windows 8 and then the DVD ejects. Does anyone know why that is and how to fix it? Note: I had to install with the nomodeset option because otherwise I would boot to a black screen.

Do you have any free space on the disk? Shrink a Windows partition within Windows, chkdsk a few times, and try the install again. –  ubfan1 Aug 29 '13 at 23:20
Did you try setting the boot to legacy in BIOS? –  Dillmo Aug 30 '13 at 0:02
