Ask Ubuntu is a question and answer site for Ubuntu users and developers. It's 100% free, no registration required.

I have a 1TB external Seagate Backup Plus hard drive. Yesterday, I carelessly just unplugged the hard disk even though I got some sort of an unmounting error when I did it. Now, the hard disk doesn't appear on any system! I tried it on windows, Mac and Ubuntu.

The filesystem of the hard disk is NTFS. The disk also shows up on the boot menu when I restart. It simply doesn't mount I think. Could this be due to some corrupted NTFS file? Can I fix this on windows using chkdsk ?

Please help !
