I instaled using:

sudo apt-get install -y postgresql postgresql-contrib

When I run psql, there is an error:

psql: could not connect to server: No such file or directory
Is the server running locally and accepting
connections on Unix domain socket "/var/run/postgresql/.s.PGSQL.5433"?

ls -Al /var/run/postgresql/ Also, it should be *5432. Have you done something weird? Like install two pgsql servets? –  Damn Terminal Aug 27 '13 at 15:19
