I had problems with windows 8 so i installed ubuntu and erased my windows 8 install. After finishing installation I restarted my computer and it brought me to a screen with 4 options: Ubuntu, with linux 3.8.0-29-generic, Ubuntu, wiht Linux 3.8.0-29-generic (recovery mode), memory test (memtest86+), memory test (memtest86+, serial console 115200). NOTE: when i click the first option it tells me it cant load a kernel (whatever that is). I have tried the boot repair and still the problem persists. Any help would be great.

Have you disabled UEFI secure boot? What laptop model do you have? –  gmjain Aug 25 '13 at 21:19

Could you add the exact error message (exactly, the whatever is that) since this is critical for the solution of your problem. –  Braiam Aug 26 '13 at 1:18
