Ask Ubuntu is a question and answer site for Ubuntu users and developers. It's 100% free, no registration required.

I was told to go into software sources and find proprietary drivers but the list was empty. So I added the edgers ppa, pressed Ctrl + Alt + F1, types sudo service lightdm stop, installed drivers with sudo apt-get install nvidia-current nvidia-settings, typed sudo nvidia-xconfig, and then restarted Ubuntu. Now all I see is my desktop. Is there any easier way to install the drivers that actually work? What do I do? Thanks!
