Ask Ubuntu is a question and answer site for Ubuntu users and developers. It's 100% free, no registration required.

I have recently installed Ubuntu 12.04. In the beginning, when running ubuntu, my laptop used to crash showing an error regarding High Temperature. Following http://techhamlet.com/2012/05/ubuntu-how-to-fix-over-heating-of-laptops-with-switchable-graphics/, I was able to disable my discrete graphics.

In the systems details, it used to show my diver as unknown. After installing mesa, it now shows Intel Sandy Bridge Integrated Graphics Controller.

This is actually my third installation this week. In my previous installations, I had no issues with overheating. But every single time I tried to install AMD ATI Catalyst Center following the steps given on http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1930450. However each time I got a black screen and even after following the steps on the website, I could not rectify it. Hence a new reinstallation.

I have given up on installing amd catalyst center, my question is do i need to install the specific intel graphics driver for my intel hd integrated graphics?

(Intel HD Graphics/AMD ATI Radeon HD6750)
