Ask Ubuntu is a question and answer site for Ubuntu users and developers. It's 100% free, no registration required.

I am running Gnome 3.6 and KDE 4.10.5 on Ubuntu 13.04 on an ASUS X53U. The computer can boot in Windows 7 (from Grub). In Windows, I can turn bluetooth on and off and use it.

In Ubuntu (I tried both Gnome and KDE), however, it shows no bluetooth adapters found.

Output of dmesg from the first occurance of bluetooth till the last is:

The computer can connect to a wireless lan in Windows as well as Ubuntu.

What do I need to do to get the bluetooth working?

Here is the result of rfkill list all: 1: phy0: Wireless LAN Soft blocked: no Hard blocked: no 5: hci0: Bluetooth Soft blocked: no Hard blocked: no –  deshmukh Aug 21 '13 at 15:34

i think your blue tooth drivers are missing! Have you tried jockey! Hope it would fix. Run: sudo jockey-gtk in your terminal! Reply what happens. –  Saurav Kumar Sep 3 '13 at 7:06

There is no jockey-gtk command! Softward & Updates shows a tab Additional Drivers which lists only ATI card. –  deshmukh Sep 3 '13 at 7:51

Could you maybe post the output of lsusb and lspci. (By editing your question, not in comments please) The driver page at ASUS is not very specific about the bluetooth chip and the driver download probably covers every AzureWare driver ever released (100MB+). –  alexander255 Sep 4 '13 at 20:48

Do you have installed this package firmware-atheros?

If no please try to install by using this command:

sudo aptitude install firmware-atheros

Also I know that this is solution for Debian

http://wireless.kernel.org/en/users/Drivers/ath3k#ath3k

But I think root cause in missing packages.

here is the output of the command to install the package: Reading package lists... Done Building dependency tree Reading state information... Done E: Unable to locate package firmware-atheros –  deshmukh Sep 6 '13 at 4:50

sorry, but this package contains in Debian repository could you please try this article? askubuntu.com/questions/296703/… With my previous HP laptop it was useful –  Svyatoslav Sep 8 '13 at 16:21

In order to install the firmware-atheros package, you need to add the following line to the etc/apt/sources.list file:

deb http://ftp.de.debian.org/debian squeeze main non-free

After that, sudo apt-get update ; sudo apt-get install firmware-atheros

In my install, it said that the package couldn't be autenthicated, but is shouldn't be a problem (the URL is provided in Debian's site...)

It says, E: Unable to locate package atheros-firmware –  deshmukh Sep 9 '13 at 13:59

Wait, my bad, it's firmware-atheros, like the Svyatoslav said. Try installing the package, after adding the source. (Also, I'm updating the answer.) –  Nico Villanueva Sep 10 '13 at 13:20
