UPDATE TO THE SAGA BELOW-SUCCESS
this link is great and yes I did need to remove the SLA driver(ubuntu default driver) -it would not work to try to remove it withthe terminal but I went to synaptics package manager and removed it there. my b43 installations did not need to be renewed just getting the SLA out of the way did the trick
I have had easy success in past -3 times -to get info from the ubuntu community and get wifi connectivity this time not so It seems strange that the terminal stalls( i have given it lots of time) -doesn't finish the task- which means I reboot into restore mode and fix packages I a not great at this but cutting and pasting sudo commands I can do these are commands I have tried -some completed with no change in wifi,others stalled thanks for all you help. lovin open source community!
in compaq v6000 03:00.0 Network controller : Broadcom Corporation BCM4311 802.11b/g WLAN [14e4:4311] (rev 01)
tried: sudo apt-get install --reinstall bcmwl-kernel-source After it's done, do: Code: sudo modprobe wl If there is no error or warning, your wireless should be working.
FATAL: Error running install command for wl FATAL: Module w not found.
Tried: sudo apt-get install linux-firmware-nonfree latest version already installed sudo modprobe -v b43 stalled in terminal
Next try -for compaq c500 sudo apt-get install firmware-b43-installer then sudo apt-get remove bcmwl-kernel-source this didnt work so I reinstalled the ubuntu sta driver in package manger got -FATAL: Error running install command for wl but still told me install was complete
next try sudo apt-get remove --purge bcmwl-kernel-source then sudo apt-get install linux-firmware-nonfree then sudo modprobe b43 stalled in terminal so unable to do second command update to this saga;;;;
