I would like to find a way to turn my laptop touchpad on and off. (I generally use a mouse instead.)

I use an HP laptop. Thanks.

  • @user13499 What is the model of your laptop? What version of Ubuntu are you running?

@user: I think you need to add a repository first. Apr 3, 2011 at 3:50

Touchpad-Indicator will allow you to toggle on/off the touchpad, simply, and quickly.

  • Open a terminal, and run the following:

sudo apt-add-repository ppa:atareao/atareao.

sudo apt-get update.

sudo apt-get install touchpad-indicator.

  • You may then launch touchpad-indicator from Accessories.

Open gconf-editor, navigate to /desktop/gnome/peripherals/touchpad and uncheck "touchpad enabled".

  • @danielkullmann what version of Ubuntu are you using? You may need to open a new question.
