Ask Ubuntu is a question and answer site for Ubuntu users and developers. It's 100% free, no registration required.

I installed steam and from there the DOTA2 game, it starts and I can see the introductory videos but the moment I start the game I cant see nothing, just a black screen.

So far I'd tried switching the video card drivers but with the proprietary ones the game wont even start and with the xorg drivers its the issue I mentioned before.

I'm using a Tsunami t669 laptop with the following specs:

  • Intel Core 2 Duo Processor T9550 2.66GHz, 1066MHz FSB, 3MB L2 cache)
  • NVIDIA GeForce 9600M GT with 512MB of GDDR3 discrete vídeo memory
  • 15.4" WSXGA Matte (1680 x 1050 max. resolution)
  • 4GB DDR2 800MHz -250GB 7200rpm Serial ATA hard drive
  • Ubuntu 13.04

Hi, can you provide what version of Ubuntu you are using and what drivers you have already tested. Also please see askubuntu.com/questions/36930/… and askubuntu.com/questions/61396/how-to-install-nvidia-drivers/… for more information on installing the Nvidia drivers. –  Luis Alvarado Aug 13 '13 at 14:25
Hi Luis, im using Ubunto 13.04 just installed yesterday, and i have tried drivers from the ubunto software center. –  NmRfG Aug 13 '13 at 14:33
Hi @NmRfG, please try any of the links I provided (Both include nice guides). With them you should solve this problem. If not post an update here. The same issue you are mentioning (Dota2 Black Screen) was already mentioned in steamcommunity.com/app/570/discussions/0/864969481965511232 but is fixed by using the recommendations posted on the links I provided. –  Luis Alvarado Aug 13 '13 at 14:42
