I've installed Ubuntu 12.10 from mini CD with no UI. After I upgraded it to 13.04 and installed XFCE through sudo apt-get install xubuntu-desktop following these instructions. Logging in to XFCE was great, and I added XFCE 4.10 PPA and do dist-upgrade - upgrade went well, but after I login no UI is displayed. I can call app finder through Alt+F2, but I want to see the desktop and panels.

Could you give me some clues about how to run XFCE desktop?

At login, did you select Xubuntu Desktop? There should be the option in the greeter, to select different desktop environments, if there are several environments installed. –  kleinempfaenger Aug 9 '13 at 13:02

sure - in fact Xubuntu is the only on login page... –  DreadAngel Aug 9 '13 at 13:51

It seems that after updating from XFCE4.10 PPA is causing the issue, if only installing xubuntu-desktop then all work well... –  DreadAngel Aug 9 '13 at 14:11
