I just finished installing 13.04 on my Samsung Series 7 laptop. After rebooting and running the Ubuntu partition for the first time, I ended up stuck on a black screen with a flashing Cap Lock Indicator light. I believe this is a Kernel Panic.

My question actually has nothing to do with why it is stuck in a Kernel Panic. My real problem right now is I cannot reboot from the Kernel Panic. Holding down the power button isn't shutting down the system and removing the internal battery extremely difficult.

Is there some key sequence or trick I don't know for getting the computer to shut off?

Have you tried issuing reboot? –  Alex Aug 7 '13 at 23:48

How long are you holding the power button down? If it takes more than 10 seconds, there might be some kind of hardware malfunction. –  TSJNachos117 Aug 8 '13 at 0:53

I held it for various times. As short as a second, as long as a minute. –  Andrew Aug 8 '13 at 1:06
