Yesterday I upgrade my system (currently running 12.04 with kernel updates from the PPA), and there has been a problem with the update of udev see below for the console output.

Setting up udev (175-0ubuntu9.4) ...
invoke-rc.d: unknown initscript, /etc/init.d/udev not found.
dpkg: error processing udev (--configure):
subprocess installed post-installation script returned error exit status 100
Setting up fonts-freefont-otf (20130805-0gnu1~svn2703~precise1) ...
Setting up fonts-freefont-ttf (20130805-0gnu1~svn2703~precise1) ...
Errors were encountered while processing:
E: Sub-process /usr/bin/dpkg returned an error code (1)

I went to worked all day, but when I turned on the computer at home, all effects were gone, even if I initiate session on GNOME3 only the classical GNOME shows up.

Additionally, mousepad and sound is not working anymore. Both were fine yesterday.

  • Does anyone knows what happened?
  • What could I do to solve the problem?
