Help! Have just downloaded beta1. All I did was open Firefox and now the Unity launcher and panel have disappeared. I'm now having to use the classic version of ubuntu as even after a reboot, Unity does not reappear :( Any ideas?

This is likely one of 2 things a compiz crash in which case a window should appear saying restart compiz or an issue with unitys config to fix both hit ALT+CTRL+F1 login and run unity then hit ALT+CTRL+F7 |

I had the same problem. This is what I did: To get your menu bar back, change the login session to Ubuntu Classic; you can see this option in the bottom of the login screen, just when you are about to type your password. After this, I have installed unity-2d and was able to use Unity. For this, when log back in select Unity-2d instead of Ubuntu Classic. With Unity, you might need some getting-used-to, but IMHO, it is quite nice. Hope this helps. |
