After updating the kernel of Ubuntu 13.04, there appears to be a display issue. When selecting the most recent version of Ubuntu to boot in the grub launcher (which I previously didn't have and now have? I dual boot between Win 7 and Ubuntu 13.04 on separate drives so I'm confused as to why I now have the grub launcher?), the screen goes blank and the monitor simply says "mode not supported". I had NVIDIA proprietary drivers installed before (for a GTX-280 card)... could this be the culprit?

I am new to Ubuntu as you can probably tell. How can I fix this? Any and all help is appreciated so that I can use Ubuntu again. Many thanks!

Thank you for your assistance. I am still getting the same problem though; after changing the quiet splash to nomodeset or no splash, I am still getting a black screen with an error message from the monitor that reads "mode not supported". What should I try next? –  Alvin Jul 29 '13 at 23:47
