I'm having lots of problems trying to customize my keys. Here's some.

This works pretty well, but doesn't work at all with focus on the terminal and a few other places.

#~/.xbindkeysrc
"xvkbd -xsendevent -text "a""
    Alt + a

xvkbd -xsendevent -text "a" typed in the terminal says this, and doesn't work at all:

Warning: Cannot convert string "-*-lucidatypewriter-bold-r-*-*-12-*-*-*-*-*-iso8859-1" to type FontStruct
Warning: Cannot convert string "-*-helvetica-bold-r-*-*-12-*-*-*-*-*-iso8859-1" to type FontStruct
Warning: Cannot convert string "-*-helvetica-medium-r-*-*-12-*-*-*-*-*-iso8859-1" to type FontStruct
Warning: Cannot convert string "-*-helvetica-medium-r-*-*-10-*-*-*-*-*-iso8859-1" to type FontStruct
xvkbd: Mode_switch not available as a modifier
xvkbd: although ISO_Level3_Shift is used instead, AltGr may not work correctly

This doesn't work anywhere, not sure why because xte 'key a' works on its own in the terminal

#~/.xbindkeysrc
"xte 'key a'"
    Alt + a
