I am looking for a pay-as-you-go USB 3G Modem that I could install on a netbook under Ubuntu. I am in Canada, and would like to stay away from Bell.

Any brand name / model number that was tested to work under Ubuntu ?

Have you considered a "Mifi" device? This is a tiny router that has wifi and cell broadband radios in it and routes between them. One advantage is that it can connect multiple computers to the internet and is OS agnostic. A disadvantage is all the computers need wifi. –  Paul Mar 31 '11 at 6:38
