Ask Ubuntu is a question and answer site for Ubuntu users and developers. It's 100% free, no registration required.

I tried all of the 'answers' at the "No launcher, no unity, no dash" and I still get my wallpaper and two icons. I have noticed that I get a Fatal Root visual is not a GL visual when it comes to opening OpenGL. Does this mean that I don't have an OpenGL or something?

When I tried the ccsm, my Unity plugin doesn't have a checkbox next to it and when I click on the Unity and then check the box to enable it tells me I have to enable the OpenGL, then Scale, then Expo (both require me to enable opengl). Basically the same as the "I've just upgraded to Ubuntu 13.04 with same issue: no Menu, no launcher, but no Unity checkbox in ccsm" question and it sends me back to the no launcher one.

I installed Ubuntu since some friends have it and like it better than windows. I was using XP. Could the reason be because my computer is old (it's 9yrs old)?

Edit 7.27.13: Here's the info on my system

what happens if you type unity in to Terminal? –  SimplySimon Jul 26 '13 at 8:20

You may have issues with proprietary drivers. Did you install them? –  Danatela Jul 26 '13 at 8:32

Post some information about you pc. Use lspci -v. Post the results. –  far_sight Jul 26 '13 at 8:54

SimplySimon -- That's where the 'Fatal: Root visual is not a GL visual' appears. –  Wendy Jul 27 '13 at 19:43
