Since upgrading to 13.04, my webcam is no longer functioning in Skype. Audio still works, video does not.
Issuing the lsusb command in a terminal shows:
Bus 001 Device 002: ID 1058:1100 Western Digital Technologies, Inc. Bus 001 Device 003: ID 05e3:0608 Genesys Logic, Inc. One line from the bottom shows the webcam. It is a webcam with built-in microphone.
Cheese Webcam Booth's "Preferences" dialog, in the Webcam tab shows the camera as:
UVC Camera (046d:081d) (/dev/video0)
This matches the lsusb listing above. The drop-down list for the webcam device on the dialog is greyed-out. I assume it's because I only have one camera device connected, but not sure of this. Cheese does not activate the camera to take photos or video.
guvcview does activate the camera, and I can successfully capture images and video clips with sound. So, this tells me the hardware is in fact working (It works fine under Win XP as well).
For Skype, the launch command:
bash -c 'LD_PRELOAD=/usr/lib/i386-linux-gnu/libv4l/v4l1compat.so skype'
was working before the upgrade to 13.04, but now, no video in Skype. Audio/Sound still works, but no video.
Issuing the 'locate v4l1compat.so' command in a terminal reveals:
So, I know the shared object is there, and the path to locate it is correct. By the way... Skype version is the latest (4.2).
Also, there is another issue I'm having... Unity Dash doesn't find anything any more ! No matter what I type in the search bar... No matter what 'lens' I clicked on... I get the same response... Sorry, there is nothing that matches your search. Unity Dash is apparently severely broken.
Any help on solving these issues are greatly appreciated.
