I have made a mistake of installing Ubuntu Server 12.10 as I have no idea how to use it. I have a Windows Server 2008 disk that I would like to boot but I have no idea how to boot it in Ubuntu. All I see is like a command line. I want to know, how can I boot this DVD and install Windows server over Ubuntu? This is an old Windows XP computer.

Please Help Thanks - Flynn

Just set the BIOS to boot cd/dvd first. Put the disk in, restart the machine again. –  matv1 Jul 19 '13 at 9:03

Put the Windows Server 2008 disk to the drive and enter the following command to reboot

sudo shutdown -r 0

Then go to BIOS to boot from the cd/dvd first and install it

I have done this, now I am getting the message "non-system disk or disk error replace and strike any key when ready" –  user176520 Jul 19 '13 at 9:20

@user176520 when are getting this error??? Is it in Ubuntu or after the restart while going to install Windows Server 2008 –  Roney Thomas Jul 19 '13 at 9:24

It is an HP computer so it is just after the logo (with function options and boot options) but just before startup when it attempts to boot from the disk –  user176520 Jul 19 '13 at 9:33

@user176520 your hard disk is corrupted. Make sure that the Windows server 2008 disk is bootable. Because installing the OS again would fix the corruption issue. Also try to boot a Ubuntu recovery disk and use the memtest to see if your memory is good or bad. If its good then install the Windows server or else see HP support. If the Windows server 2008 is bootable then you wouldn't see the error most likely. –  Roney Thomas Jul 19 '13 at 9:43

Thanks, I will try this. Any idea how I can make my device bootable or find out if it is? –  user176520 Jul 19 '13 at 10:58
