Ask Ubuntu is a question and answer site for Ubuntu users and developers. It's 100% free, no registration required.

I just installed 13.04 and it hangs up on purple reboot screen. Says

umount: /run/lock: not mounted ok,
umount: /run/shm: not mounted,
mount: / is busy, will now restart

and also

caught signal 15, shutting down.

what do I do? I'm a total noob to ubuntu.

yes several times and since i was having problems with the pci wireless card in my pc i took it out and am now reinstalling 13.04 to see if that was what it was hanging up on. –  chaoshoffa Jul 19 '13 at 7:31
So does it boot normally and hangs on restart or does not start at all? –  Danatela Jul 19 '13 at 7:37
yes it boots normally. every time I've tried to restart it it does this. I end up just holding the power button until it shuts off. –  chaoshoffa Jul 19 '13 at 7:42
OK. Reinstalling is not essential. Did you search these lines in search engines? I found bugreport and this workaround‌. Hope this will help. –  Danatela Jul 19 '13 at 8:41
thank you so much! i stopped using the proprietary nvidia drivers and it works no problems so far. also i took out my wireless card as it is ancient and now i dont get funky messages at boot up. –  chaoshoffa Jul 19 '13 at 16:53
