I am a complete novice and want to install Skype on Ubuntu 10.04. Please can someone give me step by step instructions. "Download and install Skype for Ubuntu 10.04 32-bit" just isn't enough. I have downloaded the file to my Downloads folder but don't know what to do next. Thanks.

Thanks very much. There must have been something wrong with the initial download. When I downloaded it a second time it worked perfectly. Thanks @Gerep too. – user174453 Jul 18 '13 at 19:36
If it worked, accept it. – horIzoN Jul 19 '13 at 14:48

If you download it from their page, in your Download directory will be a file with a .deb extension, you double-click it and Ubuntu Software Center will open and on the right side you'll see a Install button.
