I'm running Ubuntu 12.04 with GNOME 3 on my Eee PC 1015. The laptop screen is set to 1024x600 (default). I plug in a second screen at resolution 1280x1024 and place it above the first, as shown in the display dialog below.
This arrangement is to prevent a performance issue that kicks in on the Eee if it has to render more than 2048 pixels across, AFAIK.
Now, if I try to maximize a window, I get a narrow bar on the right-hand side, presumably related to the difference in width between the two screens. (If I put the laptop screen to the left, things maximize to the gap on the right.)
I can resize windows on the second screen such that they fill it, but maximizing doesn't work.
How can I maximize the windows normally?
