Right now I am running Ubuntu 13.04 and I've just finished building the most recent version of the Linux kernel used in 13.04. I downloaded the source code and the patch from here and unzipped
/home/<username>/Documents and switched into
/home/<username>/Documents/linux-3.8. From there I patched the source code with
patch -p1 < ../linux_3.8.0-19.29.diff and then configured it and compiled it with
make config and
Now I am finding out that there were specific instructions for doing this here and here. My question is do those instructions for packaging the kernel still apply or have I goofed and made this more complicated? If I have made this more complicated, what are the steps for installing this newly made kernel alongside the current one and how I include an entry for it in GRUB?
