Ask Ubuntu is a question and answer site for Ubuntu users and developers. It's 100% free, no registration required.

What I mean by this is that my GNOME Shell gets really laggy when searching while having Online Accounts (Ubuntu's) set up, which also brings in my contacts. I do have a lot of contacts in my Facebook, so whenever I search it lags extremely.(I found another post here which gives a solution but I think it's for GNOME 3.4 and earlier). How can I disable the Contacts Search provider in Ubuntu?

I'm running Ubuntu-GNOME 13.04 x86_64 with GNOME Shell 3.6.3.1.

I remember seeing 'online-accounts-facebook' and other packages being installed, since I didn't want facebook etc being integrated into my os, I deleted them all: 'sudo apt-get remove --purge online-accounts-*'. Not really an answer if you want to use online accounts, but it is some kind of an answer. –  Dr_Bunsen Jul 12 '13 at 10:17

I switched to openSUSE until Ubuntu-GNOME 13.10 will be released, which has GNOME 3.6 as well. I found a package named 'gnome-shell-search-provider-contacts', which is installed in both Fedora and openSUSE. –  Jens Reubsaet Jul 21 '13 at 8:57
