My Ubuntu is 13.04 and booting. When I boot Ubuntu from the GRUB menu, it boots to a black screen that says:

"Ubuntu 13.04 [Ubuntu name] tty1

[ubuntu name] login:"

My graphics card is > Mobile Intel® 4 Series Express Chipset Family.

I can't access the desktop.

How can I stop this from happening and just boot normally again?

back in the days of FC3, terminal sessions meant something. I forget what, tty5 was the gui tty1 was error logging I think. so, you login? Then what what can you see? When you say Desktop I think the folder, /home/user/Desktop. But you might mean the GUI, so which is it? do you have access to all you files and folders? What does dmesg say? are there errors there? what is tty7 doing? ctrl+alt+F7 to find out ctrl+alt+F1 to get back. Try running sudo lightdm and see if the welcome screen appears. –  j0h Jul 11 '13 at 19:58

Okay so I booted and everything worked fine but this only happens every 1 in 100 boots! So I rebooted and it returned to its none working state and I did them and it booted to the desktop –  Liam Wright Jul 11 '13 at 20:27
