I have a "Gearhead WCF2600HDBLU" camera and I'm trying to get it to work in Ubuntu 13.04. It is a known-working camera, and lsusb has the following relevant output:

Bus 002 Device 005: ID 0ac8:3420 Z-Star Microelectronics Corp. Venus USB2.0 Camera

Cheese shows a black screen, and GUVCVIEW demands that I install the camera.

A little help?

Could you provide the lines that appear after running the following steps? 1) Disconnect the camera. 2) Open a terminal and run sudo tail -f -n0 /var/log/syslog 3) While leaving the terminal open, plug in the camera. 4) Try to use the camera applications. 5) Go back to the terminal window - a dozen lines should have appeared. 6) Copy&Paste them into your question using code-block formatting. 7) Press Ctrl+C to stop the tail process and close the terminal. This may give some more clues. :) However, 0ac8:3420 should just work and this may just be worth a bug report and not a question here. –  gertvdijk Jul 10 '13 at 21:30
