Just installed ubuntu server on a virtual machine, I have configured the network, it updates fine, I checked the repositories and nothing any package you want to install with sudo apt-get install or aptitude tells me there is no package.

Have you done sudo apt-get update before trying to install any package? (not sure if this is what you mean with "updates fine") –  Salem Jul 9 '13 at 14:42
    
appreciate your help, but I figured it out, I had to reinstall the whole system ... I remembered that during installation select enter manually packet coach ... and there confuse me a bit but i could install, so I thought that may have damaged something there ... so i reinstall.
