Ask Ubuntu is a question and answer site for Ubuntu users and developers. It's 100% free, no registration required.

I've managed to install the Windows based Steam on my Ubuntu through Wine.

I downloaded Mount And Blades Warbands with the Napoleonic Wars DLC and I set up my usual settings, but then when I joined a multiplayer game it lagged horribly. I looked at the "Estimated Performance" metre in the graphics settings and it showed 47%, on my Windows system it showed 117%.

From what I have read, it seems like Wine is not optimized for gaming.

Does anyone know a better .exe emulator for gaming?

Why do you play it on wine? Steam already has a native Linux Client for Ubuntu in the software center, or you can -if you wish- to download it directly from Steam's site. Of course, the performance of the native client is much better. –  Geppettvs D'Constanzo Jul 5 '13 at 13:30

There are always improvements check for updates. However you aren't going to get much better than wine, maybe configuring it might squeeze out a bit more performance. Lastly technically Wine Is Not an Emulator. –  Peter Micheal Lacey-Bordeaux Oct 14 '13 at 16:41
