I have the same problem as here where my audio settings are empty and tried the solution. But when I run

sudo ppa-purge ppa:ubuntu-audio-dev/ppa

it tells me:

sudo: ppa-purge: command not found.

Furthermore, my microphone is not working but my sound does, except that I cannot modify the volume. Any ideas maybe?

Did you tried alsamixer ? –  Sathish Jul 4 '13 at 13:28

yes I did. I then manage to adjust the volume in the Master. For the mic, there is no line, it only states Analog Mic and it is put on the maximum (40dB). –  maximum max Jul 4 '13 at 14:59
