I just installed Ubuntu 12.04 LTS. There is no user interface.

I can login from command prompt.

I tried installing Ubuntu desktop and using startx command, but every time I try I get an error that package cannot be loaded. I think I have problem with internet connection.

Can you please help me to get internet connection setting using command line....i have lan connection....

following are the details:
ip address-
subnet mask-
default gateway-
prefered dns server-

you say you tried to install Ubuntu desktop? how did you do this? –  BiggJJ Jul 4 '13 at 8:53
You should not need a GUI to configure internet. Can you post the output of the following commands ifconfig; route -n and also cat /etc/network/interfaces this will tell us if you are connected to the local LAN network and how it was configured. Finally do you have a proxy? –  Warren Hill Jul 4 '13 at 9:31
