I'm trying to run a preinst script in a self-created package that has a dependency not in the sources.list on a machine, however every time I've tried it it attempts to install the dependencies listed in the control file which then causes a failure due to the missing source. Does the preinst not actually run on the initial package install but after the Depends have been fulfilled?

EDIT: I've just checked and if I install the package manually with dpkg -i it runs the script fine, but if I'm using apt-get it won't. Does apt-get force the dependencies prior? That seems counterintuitive.
