Ask Ubuntu is a question and answer site for Ubuntu users and developers. It's 100% free, no registration required.

I installed ubuntu using the wubi for windows, which now my version is 12.04. Everytime I reinstall Ubuntu, I can restart my computer and boot into Ubuntu for the first initial setup. I was very lagging. After that, I logged out and restarted my computer and went into Windows 7, then Ubuntu. Everytime I do this, it will come out a grub screen which looks like a terminal and asks me to type something in:

grub>

Help?

You have some driver incompatibility. Usually these are caused by graphics drivers (nvidia, radeon). So boot with nomodeset and then install the custom graphics drivers. This should prevent the lagginess and also the Wubi root.disk corruption. –  bcbc Jul 2 '13 at 17:10

Erm... do you have a link to a guide how I do this? Thx a lot! –  KwongTN Jul 4 '13 at 14:50

How to nomodeset is shown here: askubuntu.com/questions/162075/… How to install graphics drivers (or other extra drivers) shown here: askubuntu.com/questions/47506/how-do-i-install-extra-drivers –  bcbc Jul 4 '13 at 17:09

But there is no graphical interface for me, just the command line.. –  KwongTN Jul 26 '13 at 16:32

If you are already booting to a grub command prompt (and you don't have anything you need to recover), then just reinstall and then follow the steps described in those links. There is a specific Wubi answer for the first link. –  bcbc Jul 26 '13 at 18:24
