Ask Ubuntu is a question and answer site for Ubuntu users and developers. It's 100% free, no registration required.

I recently added a Sapphire Radeon HD 5450 card to my computer. It works great in Windows 7, but I have had a myriad of problems in Ubuntu.

At first, I just used the normal X.org drivers, and it caused the card to overheat and after about 5 minutes, the screen freaked out.

I then installed the closed source AMD drivers, and it worked perfect for a few boots, but now every time I try and boot, the screen just freaks out. The bottom third is white and the top is mixed colors and it switches from that to all mixed colors until you crash the computer.

Does anybody know anything or have any comments? I would really appreciate it. Thank you!
